Part III: The Stupidening
Life as we know it ended with this paper. I have read the xanga sites of teenage girls that were more coherent. If you read this, your life will never be the same.
Because your brain will explode.
I just hope my bold commentary can live up to it. There might be places in which I'm too amazed to say anything at all.
Sallust and His Views on Rome Sallust and his historical document. He was an historian, not a viewer.
Through out Rome’s early history there were not many writers who were known for their writing abilities. That's right, there weren't many writers in fucking Rome. No, we don't have much writing from that period at all. One writer that seems to stand out in Roman history, was a writer by the name of Sallust. This is the worst writing that a writer has ever written. Sallust is the author of the book The Jugurthine War/ The Conspiracy of Catline. He is the author of the two books The Jugurthine War and The Conspiracy of Catiline. This book has became famous around the world for many reasons. We had to read it, it must be important around the world. This book Which one? written by Sallust argues the greediness, strong belief in gods, strive for power, and patriotism of the country of Rome. It argues none of these things. It argues nothing at all. These are some of the key things that lead the Country of Rome to fall at points, and then again pick its self up become the leaders. So... are these things good or bad? If they lead Rome to fall, but also lead Rome to pick "its self" up, then they're quite neutral and not worth a paper.
Many people ask why is Sallust such and important person, and who is Sallust. Some have determined that Sallust was not an important person, and we had to read this book simply because the teacher is mean. First and foremost Sallust was a long time politician. Sallust severed Ouch in the Senate of Rome before he was expelled by the Censor for alleged immorality in 50 B.C. Sallust a supporter and a close friend of Caesar was named chief henchmen of Caesar ,as well as a an, officer in various campaigns, ,of the Civil wars, which put him in a group,,, known as the populares. This whole section is paraphrased from the introduction. The populares was aardvark anti-senatorial group of politicians lead by Caesar. Through Sallust sticking by Caesar’s side, Caesar appointed him praetor in 46 B.C, and he was known as the proconsular governor of the province of Africa Nova. Filler is a good song. Minor Threat helps me write papers. Sallust writings of the Conspiracy of Catiline at Rome during 63 B.C. showed many people just what the culture of Rome was like in these times. So... Sallust wrote about an historical event to show the people of Rome what their own culture was like. Sallust had many themes for writing the piece on the Conspiracy of Catiline, one was to show the “ criminal enterprise of unexampled wickedness and involved in Rome in unexampled perils Like this paper.”(9)
Sallust as one knows Does one? was a great writer Which is why we must be reading him, and one would argue that Sallust wrote this particular work to later show the people Those people - over there how Roman Culture had changed over time. Sallust knew that one day kids in college would be studying him. Up to and right before this time, the Roman culture was very rooted on many beliefs. Two very distinct entities. The Beliefs A religious text, dated around 8,000,000 B.C. were followed closely by nearly all of the Roman people. Not so much by all the people they conquered. Rome was a country that believed in unity from the Kings right down to the peasants that worked in their master’s fields. U-N-I-T-Y! If this country went to war everybody was going to unit Except the lowest peasants, who weren't allowed to fight in wars until the fall of the Republic. But they don't count, and put their heart in souls into winning for the betterment of their country Enslaving people. If there was a neighbor that was in need of help everyone around him would unit and help him get his problems solved Rome was a happy, swell place for a while - going to war with countries, destroying the lands of Carthage forever even when they weren't a threat, enslaving thousands - I'd like to have lived there, not because they necessarily liked him, but because he was simply a Roman Citizen. The Roman Citizen's handbook - everyone had a copy. If not, they were executed. During these times this is the respect and the loyalty that the Roman Culture stood for. As Sallust would soon bring out in his writings, this culture soon fell to the way side for riches and goods. Damn you, riches and goods! Through his writings on Catiline’s Conspiracy, Sallust would show how the riches destroyed the culture of the Roman People. If only we hadn't been so rich! Our empire never would have died!
Due to Rome’s great power over the many years they inherited a lot of riches and land. Power brings riches. With this came greedy people who wanted all the land and all the riches. Riches bring greed. Note that greed does not bring riches. Rome just happened to stumble across all the riches, the land, and the conquering of the entire known world. It might have been an accident. Instead of using the money and land that they had won to better the Country, they used these riches to better themselves inadvisably I told them not to do it trying to put oneself Hello, there, I'm Mr. Singular. Use me when you want to sound intellectual and academic Rattata power. As stated in the piece by Sallust “ Growing love of money, and lust for power which followed it, engendered every kind of evil. Avarice destroyed honor, integrity, and every other virtue…”(181). This happened around 70 B.C.. Sallust says so. He was a prophet, see. Not only did he know that the day of Christ was near, he also knew that we would one day use it as a landmark event to date things. He also knew that one day students would be studying his book in college. All hail Sallust! One would believe this is werewolf Sallust could see the Culture of the Roman people begin to change. Where? Oh, here? But what happened before this point? Oh yeah, happy-swell Rome. I forgot, because Sallust didn't mention happy-swell Rome. This type of power taught men to be cruel, dishonest, and un-i-t-y! loyal to the mighty gods that they once believed in so strongly. Sallust believe that the riches tempted many to be false, to have one thought hidden away, while another ready to on the tip of their tongues, to becomes a man’s friend or enemy not because they judged them worthy, but because they thought it would pay them.(181) Paraphrasing is good. Let me paraphrase this paper: "MUNNIES R BAD" As one would soon see through Sallust writings Rome would soon change from once being so just and admirable, to becoming so harsh and unendurable. Sallust fucking hated Rome, too. All he could talk about was how barbaric they were compared to other countries. (For context - Sallust mentions several times that all countries were inferior to Rome, and makes many racist statements about the dispositions of other peoples.)
The power hunger of every wealthy man in Rome,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, was another theme The previous theme we explored was completely unrelated that Sallust brought out in this short ~80 pages, if I remember correctly, but the writer who wrote this writingly only read 3 piece to show the changed that took place through out Rome during this period. The men of Rome were not helping their neighbors, now they were planning of wayward son! There'll be peace when you are done! to have them killed. Instead of using the money to help Rome, they were using the money to buy supporters, and to help buy political power which would help push them to the top of power realm. Catiline = every rich person in Rome. With this came the plot to kill people high up on the power chart which was posted in the town square. “ Catiline and Autronius revealed their plans in the first week of December: they were plotting to assassinate the new consuls Lucius Cotta and Lucius Torquatus in the Capitol on the first of January to seize the consular for themselves”(187). This is the first of many 3, I believe plots to kill high ranking people, that Sallust wrote about. Hinting at the key point that the people of Rome Catiline had become a type of people Catiline that were out for power no matter who they had to take out, and who they would be hurting. SYMBOLISM!
Sallust used many of the great leaders to present his theme of how greediness, power hunger, and the strive for riches and gold would bring a culture like the Roman culture down on it’s culture knees. Many time through out this period, these lood Sounds like the name of an FFDog character acts were being preformed Formed beforehand by many of the highest officials in Rome. Like Catiline, who failed at every attempt to gain power within the system. This if why I think Sallust portrayed the character Catiline in the way that he portrayed him. OOOHHHHH! He thinks Catiline is a fictional character! Well then! did someone say F? Sallust portrayed Catiline as a character that did not care about anything but bettering of himself. So did Cicero. Romans had this fictional world they used to represent the real one. Catiline did not care if by bettering himself, that he hurt intentionally assassinated other people in the process, and most all he hurt his culture and country. Trying to overthrow a government hurts it, sometimes. I think therefore I am. But if I think not, am I not? Sallust portrayed Catiline this way, because during this time in Rome history this was how many of the people with power and riches Like... Sallust? where acting. They did not care one bit how much grief and hardship that they caused on their people as long as they themselves had someone backing them up, and they were going to be benefiting from it. My roommate did not care one bit how much grief and hardship that he caused on the teachers who have to grade this. Many of the people that belong to the Senate at this time were dirty Like Christina Aguilera, and were not in it for the country but instead in it for themselves. THIS JUST IN: HUMAN BEINGS ARE SELF INTERESTED! This presented a problem Fleas in the Senate building, because now these dirty Low down and dirty, boy you know what I'm 'bout. Who's seen Pootie Tang? men were using the riches and the golds that they receive to bribe the lower class people into supporting them. The lower class people were an important voice. As Sallust wrote “Catiline promised the cancellation of debts and a proscription of the rich…”(191). Basically they were buy there friends and there enemies I'd like to buy some enemies. I don't have enough at the same time, because you could not put your full trust in any of these men they would turn on you in a split second. Sallust used his character Catiline to portray just how power hungry men of Rome were during this time period They weren't power hungry in the before time, in the long long ago - when they were conquering every single country on earth. It was after that they became greedy. Sallust said so in his book The Jugurthine War/The Conspiracy of Catiline/Fanfiction. (Sorry... bad pun.)
In through out? reading the book The Jugurthine War/The Conspiracy of Catiline, one can learn a lot about the history of Rome. Historical narratives are helpful that way. There were many great themes that the writer Sallust used in order to get this form The form of greed, I suspect of the Roman Culture The Roman Culture Can Take Many Forms. It Can Be An Eagle Or A Bear across to his reader. The theme of greediness, power hunger, and the lust of riches and gold is one of the main reason for the lowering of the Roman culture. Sallust a great writer Which, as you know, is why we read his books teaches his readers a great deal about the culture and the people of Rome. I learned a great deal about the culture and people of the U.S. from reading this. Namely, we suck.
God, what a pain. I showed that to my dad. My dad's very, very conservative. You know what he said?
"This is just a bunch of Socialist dogma."
At first I thought that estimation was silly. Then I thought about it. What have all 3 of these papers said? "RICH PEOPLE ARE EVIL." That's it - no matter where he looks, this seems to be all he can come up with. Hmmm.
Someone asked if english is my roomie's native language. Yes, it is. He's not a foreigner of any kind. He is, however, black. And this pisses me off more than anything, because he is promoting an annoying stereotype. He is the epitome of this. He's a dumbass. Chicks dig him. He plays sports, is an assistant to one of the football coaches. He listens to shitty rap music. (Yes, I do have the authority to say this. I grew up on rap. I know good rap music.) And he's a dumbass. And he's considered normal. Stupid racist hicks use my roommate (or people like him) to perpetuate their "BLACK PEEPL R DUM" bullshit.
Another curiosity. I can't remember ever meeting a black girl who's not a stereotype. Why? Am I just not getting out enough?
Our culture sucks.
Also, Metallica sucks. Discuss.
ALSO! The new Kenta Cho game is a joy of joys like no joy I have ever experienced. F-Zero GX the shooter? This is probably the first of his games that I would actually pay more than $10 for. PLAY IT!
